Meetings and staff development

This page is about meetings for staff development happening around New Zealand. You will receive a certificate from each meeting you attend with the education hours so you have the evidence for your education hours and technician registration.
If you have a meeting you would like added to this page contact Jenny Carston, jenny.carston@bopdhb.govt.nz.

Meetings sponsored by the NZSSA

Organiser: Alison Stewart, acestewart28@gmail.com

These opportunities are provided for people involved with reprocessing reusable medical devices in any health service organization.  Health service organizations include but are not restricted to hospitals, private practice clinics, general practice clinics, dental, tattoo and skin piercing studios, beauty therapy clinics.

The NZSSA will be providing these opportunities to Association members at no cost (except NZSSA conference for which registration is reduced for members). This is in recognition of the member’s annual fee being returned to education.  Non-members will be required to pay a nominal registration fee for the leaders meetings and regional seminar to aid in the covering of costs for their attendance.  Non-members pay a premium registration for the NZSSA conference).

The following education opportunities organized and facilitated by the Association in 2018 are:

Leaders meetings

One in the South Island and one in the North Island.  these meetings are targeted at the person leading reprocessing of medical devices at an operational and strategic level.  There are many designations but if you have responsibility for running the service, coordinating or supporting staff then this meeting is for you.  Each meeting will have a speaker presenting on a key topic and the remainder of the day will be focused on discussion on operational issues and networking.

Christchurch Saturday 28 July 2018, 0930 – 1430hrs

Auckland Saturday 4 August 2018, 0930 – 1430hrs

Both meetings have the same programme so you can choose to go to either without missing out on valuable information. Our Conference Principal Sponsors – Surgical and Medical Systems are participating as presenters in the meetings which is fantastic. Remember to send your registrations to either Sue Woods (Christchurch meeting) or Myrna Tuya (Auckland meeting).

Regional Seminar

As our industry is being so well supported by company presentations the Association has decided to focus its resources on provision of the education and conference scholarships in 2018. We look forward to seeing Technicians putting their names forward for these very valuable opportunities.

NZSSA Annual Conference

The Association was formed in 1974 and made a commitment to each year bring together a trade exhibition and international and national presenters to bring the world of medical device processing to the members doorstep.  The Annual General Meeting of the Association is also held during the conference.  This means members have a great opportunity to have their input into the business of the Association while continuing their education.
